  • Know your Kindergarten options.

Guilford County has lots of choices—public neighborhood schools, public magnet schools, new charter schools, private schools and homeschooling. You know your child best. Talking with other parents about schools is a good start when finding a good fit. Many schools offer tours of kindergarten classrooms—contact the school office for details.

  • Enroll your child TODAY for the 2017-18 school year!

  1. Read the Welcome to Kindergarten letter to understand how to enroll. Letters are available in English, Arabic, French, Nepali, Spanish, Urdu and Vietnamese.
  2. To enroll your child, visit the school he/she will attend in 2017-18 to pick up a registration packet.  Use this tool to enter your address and see which school your child will attend.
  3. Need more information? Get details here.

Note: Enrollment periods are different at each private and charter school; contact the school directly.

  • Know what’s expected.

Every child is different and comes to kindergarten with different strengths, skills and experiences. See what experts say children should know by the end of each quarter.

  • After school programs.

You have options if you need care while you work, including the Guilford County Schools ACES program, YMCAs, community and recreation centers, and private childcare centers. Call 2-1-1 to speak with a representative who can connect you with programs near your child’s school or your home/workplace.

  • Make sure your child gets the sleep he or she needs.

Going to school is a big job and little people are tired at the end of the day. Pediatricians recommend that kindergartners get 10 to 12 hours of sleep each night.
