Board of Directors Spotlight

Posted on: December 18th, 2019 by Kim Radcliffe

As a part of our getting to know our Board of Directors initiative, we recently asked our Vice Chair, Teresa Biffle, a few questions.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

My family moved to Greensboro,  North Carolina in 1980 when my dad got a job transfer and I have stayed here since.  While I grew up thinking I was going to go into veterinary medicine, my interest in law enforcement began when I observed a thief in middle school and I was able to right a wrong by reporting the incident.  I joined the Greensboro Police Department in 1995 and in the 24 years serving have been able to work in patrol, investigations and training.  I am the proud parent of a 9 year old who teaches me patience on a daily basis.

Why did you join our board?

My name was suggested by a board member rolling off the board.  At the time I had a younger child and understood the developmental needs of the pre-K child.  I also had an understanding of the needs of our community and the obstacles in place that work against getting the support systems needed to the right communities.

What has been your favorite moment thus far as a board member?

Being able to see the work that goes into providing services for the families in our community.  You see the passion of the Guilford County Partnership for Children staff as they advocate for the funding and support of the various programs to work tirelessly for our community.

What have you learned from being on the board?

That it truly takes a village.  It is easy to forget how much decisions at the State level impact local programs until you have a seat at the table to see how each cog works to turn the other.

What would you say to anyone considering joining our board or one of the committees?

Serve… leave feeling good about the work being done and have a greater appreciation for those choosing to work as early educators.

What is your favorite children’s book?
