    What is it? Medicaid is a joint federal and state program that provides health coverage to over 72.5 million Americans, including children, pregnant women, parents, seniors, and individuals with disabilities.

    Every Baby Guilford

    What is it? An agency dedicated to: eliminating disparities, ending infant deaths, and empowering families.

    Why does it matter? Connects families with a number of resources in the community such as the Adopt-A-Mom program that provides financial support for prenatal care for women who do not qualify for Medicaid and are under/uninsured.

    HealthySteps

    What is it? What is Healthy Steps? HealthySteps partners its HealthySteps specialists with pediatric providers in our community to offer information and support to parents during the first few years of a child’s life.

    Why does it matter? They meet with parents during pediatric well-visits, and offer guidance on topics such as sleep, feeding, behavior concerns, etc., while helping families to navigate through their child’s development.

    Developmental Milestones

    What is it? Skills such as taking a first step, smiling for the first time, and waving “bye bye” are called developmental milestones.

    Why does it matter? Children reach milestones in how they play, learn, speak, act, and move (crawling, walking, etc.).

    Guidelines for Doctor Visits

    What is it? The doctor will do a physical exam of your baby to check his/her general health including reflexes, weight, and for any feeding issues.

    Why does it matter? They help you keep track of how your baby is doing and determine if further consultation is needed to address any concerns.

    What is it? NFP provides nurse home visitation to low-income, first-time mothers. A nurse home visitor educates the mother about the growth and development of her baby and helps her become more self-sufficient.

    What is it? Bringing Out the Best is an early intervention program that provides family-centered, community-based services targeting children ages birth to five with social and emotional challenges. Our goal is to increase the number of children in Guilford County that are healthy and ready to succeed as they enter school.

  • Regional Child Care Resource & Referral (RCCR&R)

    What is it? The Regional Child Care Resources & Referral program at Guilford Child Development assists families with finding childcare for children of all ages, income levels and ethnic groups. They also assist families with identifying scholarships to help cover the cost of childcare.

    What is it? Head Start and Early Head Start programs are free, federally funded programs designed to promote school readiness for children from low-income families. Early Head Start serves pregnant women and families with children under age 3. Head Start programs serve children between 3 and 5 years old.

    Child Care Voucher Assistance

    What is it? Using state and federal funds, North Carolina provides assistance for childcare services to eligible families based on need and income. The program enables families to access child care at an affordable cost by providing assistance with payments to child care providers.

Families must meet income limits established by the Division of Child Development and Early Education. Your household may be subject to the waiting list.

    What is it? The primary function of the Immunization Unit is to administer immunizations to children and adults, the goal being to eliminate vaccine preventable, communicable disease in our community and nation.

    Why does it matter? State required and recommended immunizations are provided free of charge only to children who qualify for the federal Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program. VFC-eligible children are those who are: Medicaid-eligible; American Indian or Alaskan native; uninsured or underinsured.
