Who We Are

At the Guilford County Partnership for Children (GCPC), we work to ensure that every child in Guilford County enters school healthy, safe, and ready to succeed. As a local nonprofit, we strategically invest over $18 million each year to support young children and their families, from prenatal to age five, through health, early literacy, family support, and enhancing the early childhood education field.

We direct funding from state and federal contracts, along with support from local foundations and private donors, to programs that make a measurable difference in early childhood development. As part of North Carolina’s nationally recognized Smart Start network, we collaborate with partners across the community to strengthen families and improve outcomes for young children through evidence based-evidence informed models.

The Guilford County Partnership for Children is proud to administer the largest NC Pre-K program in the state. For high-quality early education, we offer approximately 2,166 NC Pre-K slots across hundreds of classrooms within Guilford County Schools, the Head Start program at Generation Ed, and private 4 and 5 star licensed childcare facilities across Guilford County, including Greensboro and High Point. High quality standards allow us to ensure that each classroom provides engaging and nurturing early learning experiences to promote long-term success in school.

Often recognizable, our implementation of the local Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL). DPIL has had an incredible impact, helping parents increase their daily reading to their children from 45% to 67% after participation. Guilford County reaches over 50% of the children in our county ages birth to five. By fostering early literacy and building home libraries, it is just another way we are laying the foundation for success.

Strategic Plan Priority Areas

We are thrilled to publicly release data from our Early Childhood Community Needs Assessment which was recently completed as part of our strategic planning process. We were fortunate to have the expertise of Mary Beth Gilbert with Evaluation Innovations, LLC lead this work. The assessment report is available for those who want to dive in deeper to understand the needs of young children, their families and caregivers, and the early childhood education space. Data from the report helped guide our recently approved Strategic Plan. That plan, developed with the support of 1000 Feathers, will guide the work of GCPC over the next few years with a focus on two big goals.

Strategic Plan and Needs Assessment report was released in February 2025. Sign up for our newsletter to stay up to date on additional news.
